Mr. Wimer is a native of Pittsburgh. He obtained his BA degree with a major in sociology from Duquesne University in 1973. In 1971, he left college to serve for two years in the Marine Corps. During college, he worked on a part time basis for national supermarket chain, and after receiving his degree, he worked for that corporation in a management capacity. He then attended Duquesne University School of Law from which he graduated in 1977.
Mr. Wimer has been admitted to the Bar of Pennsylvania, the three Federal District courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the State Bar of West Virginia, the Federal District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia and the United States Supreme Court.
Matt has spent his career as a civil trial lawyer and was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the field of civil litigation for 2008, 2009 and 2010. He became a fellow of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County in 1988 and has served on the Board of Governors and chaired numerous committees for that organization. He is also a founding member of the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He belongs to the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations where he is a member of the civil litigation sections. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (formerly The PA Trial Lawyers Association), the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and is an associate member of the American Association for Justice (formerly The American Trial Lawyers Association). From July 1, 1999 until June 30, 2005, he served as a member, and subsequently as chair, of a hearing committee on behalf of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Wimer has been active in planning and teaching continuing legal education courses. These activities include seminars on Advanced Workers Compensation for the National Business Institute, Jury Selection and Voir Dire Techniques for the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County, Medical-Legal Aspects of Head Injury for the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and the Annual Auto Law Update seminar for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He also has taught for a number of years in the Intensive Trial Advocacy course at Widener Law School in Harrisburg.

He has been a dedicated fan of Duquesne Basketball since his college days.
